Shriners Children's Chihuahua Mexico Clinic

Shriners Children’s opened its fifth outpatient clinic in Mexico. Located in the city of Chihuahua on the campus of the reputable Hospital Angeles Chihuahua, the clinic will provide much-needed pediatric orthopedic care to children from the state of Chihuahua and beyond, eliminating costly, time-consuming travel to Shriners Children’s Mexico in Mexico City.

“This pediatric orthopedic clinic aims to provide quality care to children facing musculoskeletal challenges,” noted David Rodriquez, M.D., director of clinics in Mexico. “But beyond medical treatments, what we offer here is hope for children to be able to walk, run and live a full life. And, above all, hope for families who want the best for their little ones.”

An overflow audience attended the news conference and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Chihuahua Governor María Eugenia Campos and Secretary of Health Gilberto Baeza joined other dignitaries, Hospital Angeles and Shriners Children’s representatives, journalists, current and past Patient Ambassadors, and members of the Shriners International fraternity to celebrate the new clinic.

“The presence of Shriners Children’s significantly contributes to our shared goal of providing free, high-quality healthcare,” said the Governor, who reemphasized her efforts to work together in benefit of the children of Chihuahua.

Dr. Leslie Stewart, Shriners Children’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, explained how the clinic will have an immediate impact. “This clinic is a dream more than 25 years in the making. For decades, children from this region traveled long distances to be seen at our former outreach clinic housed in a fire station in Ciudad Juárez, or at our hospital in Mexico City. Today, children can receive the most amazing care anywhere from Shriners Children’s much closer to home.”

Shriners Children’s now has outpatient clinics in Tijuana, Monterrey, Culiacán, Guadalajara and Chihuahua, Mexico. Adding new access points for care –including extension clinics and telehealth sites – is part of Shriners Children’s international strategic plan to serve more children in the right places.
