Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada Celebrates Its Centennial

Gary McKeown: What began as a dream of the Shriners fraternity has grown into an institution renowned for innovation, compassion, and life-changing medical care.

Luca Patuelli: Every time I spent time in the hospital is really just that the time around with the staff. And everyone here at the Shriners has always made you feel like at home and they've given you that comfort and that joy. So for any parent that is undergoing giving their time to their kid right now at this hospital, just rest assured that they're in good hands.

Dr. Thierry E. ...: In 2024, we saw over 29,000 patients in the clinic, an all-time high. We've done over 1,500 surgeries, another all-time high. And overall, our whole employees had decreased from 150 to 450. We tripled the amount of employees, nurses and OR nurses. I mean, the whole staff.

Dr. Richard Cru...: There is nothing that I have done or been associated with that has been more meaningful than my time as chief surgeon and continued association.

Dr. Francis Glo...: What we have to do is to care for the children. And what I love about them is that, which is very different from adult patients, they never complain. They all still look at positive things about them, and that's wonderful.

Dr. Rene St-Arn...: Where we are present right now, we are sitting on the verge of an exciting, additional 100 years of discovery and new treatments for our patients.

Kelly Thorstad: That's why we're here. We want to make sure that that experience is everything positive, better, and that we can minimize any pain and anxiety.
