Transportation
Your trip to the hospital should be easy. If you are in need of transportation assistance, please speak with your care manager to learn about options. Our social workers assist with transportation. In addition, they can help with housing, community resources and financial counseling, as well as patient and family resources.
Overnight Accommodations
We realize that the presence of family during a child’s stay at the hospital is comforting for the child and parents. For this reason, we encourage one parent/guardian to stay at the bedside.
Other options available on-site include a six-room hotel-like Family Center. In addition, the care management department can assist families in securing accommodations at local motels or the Ronald McDonald House.
Parents able to remain in Spokane for all or a portion of their child’s hospitalization may request accommodation information from our Care Coordination department at 509-623-0455 or 888-440-4690 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Interpretation Services
Our caring interpreters allow you to understand all aspects of your child’s care and help your child to feel more comfortable when they know what to expect. Learn more about our interpreter services.
Visiting
Parents or guardians are encouraged to visit as often as they desire. For visitors other than family, regular visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please limit the number of visitors of any age to two at a time. To prevent the spread of disease, please do not visit if you are ill.
24-hour Security
Our security team provides on-site service 24 hours a day. The security staff will escort you to the parking garage upon request. If you have safety concerns or would like a security escort, please call the security guard at 509-623-0520, or visit the main desk in the hospital lobby.
Parking
Parking is free, our parking garage is located on the first floor of the hospital and is monitored by our security team 24 hours a day. The garage entrance is on Fifth Avenue and is clearly marked.
Hospital Cafe
The cafeteria is located on the fourth floor and offers a variety of menu choices and child-friendly food items. Patients may call nutrition services to place a food order and have the option to order from a room service menu. Inpatients may also request food items on the nursing snack list from the nursing staff any time they desire. The kitchen staff respects the food preferences, allergies, cultural and religious dietary restrictions of our inpatients.
Family members and visitors are welcome to purchase meals in our cafeteria. A vending machine offering beverages and snacks is available in the cafeteria 24 hours a day. Room service and the cafeteria hours will be explained in detail upon admission.
Internet/Computer Access
You can access the internet through the Patient Family Access Network (PFA). Just ask a staff member how to login from your device. Families with an inpatient stay have access to a computer in the Recreation Room. The hospital has iPads for our inpatients to borrow as well; please ask your nurse of one of our child life specialists about iPads.
ATM
There is no ATM located in the hospital. However, there are ATMs within walking distance, including several at MultiCare Deaconess Hospital directly across the street from our hospital.
Play Areas
Patients staying with us for long periods of time are scheduled for play as part of their daily routine. A child life specialist supervises structured and unstructured activities take place each day. There is a recreation room and an outside playground and garden, where you and your child can relax and play.
Children and young adults love to receive gifts. Thanks to many Shriners (members of Shriners International) and friends of Shriners Children’s, each patient usually receives a donated gift after surgery, as well as during holidays and on their birthday (if this occurs during their stay).
Friends or relatives who wish to send additional gifts, cards or flowers can address them to:
Shriners Children’s Spokane
Attn: Patient Name
911 West 5th Ave.
Spokane, WA 99204
Because latex balloons can cause choking and an allergic response, they are not allowed in the hospital. Mylar balloons are acceptable.
