Patient Programs

Our Care Extends Beyond Our Walls

At Shriners Children's Shreveport, our team is committed to caring for the overall health and well being of our patients. This includes their minds as well as their bodies. In that spirit, we offer a wide variety of programs.

Our patient programs give children the opportunity to participate in enjoyable activities to brighten their visit and to help them return to their communities more active and confident.

Shriners Children's partners with a number of community organizations to provide opportunities for children to explore and grow their overall potential inside and outside of the hospital. Your nurse or care coordinator can direct you to opportunities in the community.

Programs

Patient Ambassador Program

Current and former patients come together in our Patient Ambassador program as champions for Shriners Children’s. Our Patient Ambassadors participate in a variety of activities and events designed to promote our facility, the Shriners Children’s system, and the Shriners International fraternity. For more information on our Patient Ambassador program, email ncberg@shrinenet.org.

Visiting Groups and Activities

Shriners Children’s Shreveport welcomes a variety of visiting groups to conduct activities and patient visits throughout the year. Among these groups are the Daughters of the Nile organization, who conduct regular "pop-up" craft activities and holiday-themed events. We also welcome a variety of community groups, schools and area sports teams to visit our facility to conduct an activity, performance or other child-friendly offering.

Child Life

Our child life specialists help to make our facility more accessible to children by helping kids understand and engage with the clinic environment. Through pre-operative education, our child life team helps patients understand the processes and the medical equipment associated with surgery. With coping techniques including distraction and comfort positioning, child life staff can help to reduce anxiety and stress related to a child’s care. As part of helping kids feel at home in our facility, our child life staff also help facilitate crafts and events, coordinate with visiting groups on patient activities, and distribute birthday and surgery toys to help bring smiles.

Spirit of Children

An initiative of our friends at Spirit Halloween, the Spirit of Children program is designed to help make medical care less "scary" for kids through family-friendly engagement with kids. Each October, the organization hosts a Halloween-themed activity at our facility, complete with costumes and accessories, decorations and goodie bags for patients. It’s spooky fun for kids of all ages!

We’re always here for our patients, regardless of a family's ability to pay or insurance status.
