Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate

Facial clefts are the number one congenital condition treated by our board-certified plastic surgeons. Children who are born with this condition typically require care and monitoring for their entire childhood. Often, babies who are born with a cleft lip will also have a cleft palate, which is an opening in the roof of their mouth.

The cleft teams at Shriners Children’s understand that cleft lip and cleft palate can affect breathing, hearing, speaking, eating, and even self-esteem and emotional health. Our care team will develop a treatment plan for your child as they grow, which may include speech therapy, pediatric dental and orthodontic services, as well as nutritional services.

Everyone who has come into my life here and been involved with my treatment has made such an effort to build relationships with me so I feel comfortable with them.
