Eliminating Language Barriers to Provide Inclusive Care
At Shriners Children's we understand how important it is for you to be informed about what's going on with your child's medical care. We want you to be involved throughout every step of your child's journey and we believe that language should not be a barrier that prevents you from doing that. Our hospitals are equipped to provide interpreter services to your family by request.
If you require an interpreter, we can provide in-person and/or telehealth services that allow you to communicate fully with your child's caregivers.
Our services include:
- Video
- Audio/Telephone
- In-person
- Telehealth
- Accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing
Depending on the location where your child is being treated and the language requirements for your family, we may have interpreters in-house. If your Shriners Children's location does not have in-house language resources, we will arrange them on your behalf as part of your child's care plan.
Our interpreter services are available to our patients and their families at no additional cost.
How to Access Interpreter Services
All of our Shriners Children's locations have access to telephone translation services and some of our locations have in-house services. We provide medical translation services for all of our care and will work with our partners to locate a translator for each patient as needed.
We have access to certified deaf interpreters who can interpret for families who require this service.
We encourage family members who speak the child's native language to be present at all consultations and appointments so that they stay informed throughout their treatment journey.
