Biography
Heather Kong, M.D., received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She then earned her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, followed by orthopedic surgery residency at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. She completed fellowship training in pediatric orthopedics at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Shriners Children's St. Louis. She joined the medical staff at Shriners Children's Portland in 2016.
Dr. Kong chose pediatric orthopedic surgery as a specialty because she loves getting to know patients and their families, while working together as a team to tackle the patient's condition. Her clinical interests include lower extremity deformity, trauma and sports injuries, and hip and foot conditions. She really appreciates working with the staff at Shriners Children's, including the anesthesiologists, nurses and therapists, who have a lot of experience taking care of children with complex orthopedic conditions. Dr. Kong's goal is to help children grow up to be as successful and functional as possible, which might look different for each patient. She finds it very rewarding when she can help equip and prepare children for the years ahead, both in the short term and long term. She enjoys traveling and hopes to make international work a part of her medical career in the future.
