Rob Sheridan, M.D., Chief of Staff and Director of Burn Service: My name’s Rob Sheridan. I'm the medical director of the burn program and the chief of staff at the hospital. I trained in general surgery and found that I really liked the trauma component of general surgery and the burn component because the problems were interesting but also I enjoyed working with a group of people. The army helped put me through school and so I went into the army when I was done with my training. They trained me up further in burns and trauma. My long term plan was to try to join the Shrine system because I liked the combination of family practice and burn care in that you get to follow kids for years. I found that very attractive. I did leave the army and came here to Boston. I like seeing patients in the clinic because I like the personal connections that you make. I enjoy seeing the kids in follow-up, seeing how they’re doing, how school is going. I really like the clinic. I’ve been the director of the burn unit for many years. In theory you’re responsible for the medical care on the unit and the surgical care in the OR. But it’s like being a very good teammate. Nobody can do this without a lot of really excellent people doing their job at a very high level. Sort of being part of that group and helping to cultivate that culture is really what the job is. This is all we do, so they come here and they know these people care about this problem, they know about this problem. People from everywhere send their most difficult cases in this area here. It makes you and your team remember why we do what we do.
