Gloria Radiates Resilience

Gloria Radiates Resilience

Gloria, an inspiring author, was 6 when she suffered a severe burn accident during the Christmas holiday at her family home. Inspired by her family’s experience during her care at Shriners Children’s, Gloria started a Christmas donation drive while she was still in elementary school for families receiving care at Shriners Children's Texas. Over the years, she has shared her story with classmates and teachers and collected stuffed animals, books, toys, and toiletries to donate to the Texas facility. Gloria and her family personally drop these items off at the hospital each year.

Liam:

Oh, hey, Gloria. I didn't realize you were here.

Gloria:

Oh, hey, Liam. What are you up to?

Liam:

Just enjoying the view.

Gloria:

Yeah. It's great, isn't it? This is one of my favorite places.

Liam:

Me too.

Gloria:

Something about the water, it always inspires me. The waves never stop. No matter what happens, they just keep coming.

Liam:

Just like our stories, huh?

Gloria:

Exactly. I've been through more as a kid than most people will experience in their entire lifetime. After a bad burn accident when I was young, I've had many skin graft surgeries. And I have lots of scars. Sometimes, people look at me differently, and that can be hard for a kid. But thanks to my doctors and nurses and the amazing care at Shriners Children's, I am resilient. That means I can get through anything that comes my way. One day, I want to write my own book that helps kids who are going through something difficult.

Liam:

Resilient, just like the waves.

Gloria:

We got to keep going.

Liam:

No matter what.
