Burn Aware: Shriners Children's Helps Jheron Recover After a Cooking Accident

Meet Jheron.

Seven-year-old Jheron is on the mend after a kitchen accident left him badly burned, and his mother is cautioning other parents to be careful with their children in the kitchen.

In early October, Jheron was with his aunt in the kitchen of their home in Panama. His aunt was getting ready to cook, and when she added some oil to a pot on the stove, it suddenly caught fire and burned both her and Jheron. Jheron suffered burns to over 75% of his body and was immediately rushed to the closest hospital. The doctors there treated him as much as they could, but eventually recommended that he and his mother go to Shriners Children’s Texas to get further help.

“The hospital reached out and helped arrange our travel here,” said Jheron’s mother, Jetzabel. Once they arrived in Texas, Jheron underwent six surgeries to treat his burns, and extensive physical therapy to help him heal. And while he will likely face many more surgeries in the future, Jheron and Jetzabel are getting ready to return to Panama and their normal lives.

The therapists, doctors and nurses were very helpful.
