Understanding Disability Fundamentals to Improve Pediatric Care

Join us at Shriners Children's Chicago for the Irma and Larry Sturm Memorial Ethics Lecture. This annual lecture series features important leaders from the field of medical ethics. The lecture is offered to medical doctors and healthcare specialists responsible for patient care and well-being, and the integrity of medical institutions. The goal of this lectureship is to highlight ethical issues across disciplines, and encourage thought and exploration of these issues among residents, students and faculty. The lecture is offered at no cost to participants. Continuing education credit (nursing) may be available.

The lecture will be presented by Zoie C. Sheets, M.D., MPH. Zoie is a resident physician in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Chicago. Living with a disability herself, she has witnessed the harm perpetuated by ableism in healthcare, and believes that expanding the number of disabled doctors will improve outcomes for those with disabilities. Dr. Sheets is a Truman Scholar, has been published in several leading medical journals, and has served on national panels.

Free on-site parking is available in our visitor parking lot. There is a hospital cafeteria and vending machines.
