Sampaguita (Sam) Tafoya, M.D., is a pediatric anesthesiologist and the assistant chair of the department of anesthesia at Shriners Children's Northern California, where she is dedicated to excellence in patient care.

She serves as the hospital's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee chair, and is the elected secretary for the Medical Executive Committee. She is committed to the Shriners Children's organization at the corporate level as well, and is a member of the Anesthesia Executive Committee.

While in training, Dr. Tafoya was granted both the Outstanding Senior Resident award and Housestaff Professionalism award at UC Davis. In addition to her work at Shriners Children's, Dr. Tafoya is a volunteer clinical faculty member at the UC Davis Health System.

Her academic interests lie in pediatric regional anesthesia, resuscitation management and multimodal pain therapies. She was recently published in Pediatric Anesthesia: Pediatric Anesthesia During the Coronavirus Disease Epidemic - One Pediatric Surgical Hospital's Rapid Transition Back to Care.

She has lectured extensively on pediatric anesthesiology and is active in several professional organizations including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, California Society of Anesthesiologists, Society for Pediatric Anesthesia and the International Anesthesia Research Society.

Her experience as a dedicated mother of two young children makes her an extremely compassionate caregiver for children having surgery at Shriners Children's Northern California.
