Biography

Thierry Pauyo, M.D., FRCS(C), was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec and raised in Montreal, Canada with a passion for ice hockey. He graduated from Amherst College in 2005 with a major in neuroscience. During his time at Amherst, he played for the varsity ice hockey team and was selected for the New England Small College Athletic Conference all-academic team. He graduated with honors from Harvard Medical school before joining the orthopedic residency program at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

During medical school at Harvard, Dr. Pauyo was awarded the Harvard Medical School Dean's Community Service Award and the Massachusetts Medical Society Scholar Award for his involvement in improving the delivery of orthopedic care in Haiti. For the past 10 years, he has been involved with Partners-in-Health, providing orthopedic care in rural Haiti.

Dr. Pauyo completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Pittsburgh University where he worked with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Penguins. He completed a second fellowship at Boston's Children's Hospital at Harvard University in pediatric orthopedic surgery. Dr. Pauyo is now an assistant professor at McGill University in sports medicine and pediatric orthopedic surgery. He also works as a physician consultant for a myriad of active youth programs and is the orthopedic sports medicine physician for the Montreal Canadians in the National Hockey League.

His research interests range from stem cell and osteochondral lesion to youth athletic overuse injury and young athletic hip impingement and instability.

Dr. Payao's passion to help youth stay active led him to create, develop and implement a sports medicine program for active youth at Shriners Children's Canada. He is now the medical director of pediatric sports medicine program at Shriners Children's Canada. The sports medicine program will improve access and shorten delays in treatment of active youth with musculoskeletal injuries. Dr. Pauyo on why he enjoys working with children: Children are pure passion. I learn from them every day and find my drive in their resilience and desire to stay active.


