Biography
Bryan Menapace, M.D., MBA, is a pediatric orthopedic and spine surgeon at Shriners Children’s Portland, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at OHSU, and consulting surgeon for Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. He grew up as a two-sport varsity athlete in west Michigan before attending college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, from which he graduated early, with distinction, with a bachelor's in biochemistry and minor in business. He then began his medical training at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, graduating with a doctorate in medicine, cum laude, with honors in research, and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. During this same period, he additionally pursued a master of business administration at Emory University Goizueta Business School, graduating with concentrations in healthcare, strategy and management, and was inducted into the International Business Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma.
Dr. Menapace’s pediatric orthopedic pursuits began during his time in Atlanta, where he did research at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta under Dr. Josh Murphy, along with his colleague Dr. Nicholas Fletcher. He then proceeded to residency at the University of Cincinnati, affiliated with the renowned Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, learning from Drs. Alvin Crawford, Jim McCarthy, Peter Sturm and Viral Jain. He then culminated his training with a dual-accredited pediatric orthopedics fellowship at the eminent A.I. DuPont Institute of Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. There he focused on pediatric spine surgery and skeletal genetic abnormalities, notably under Drs. Suken Shah, Peter Gabos, Stuart Mackenzie and Jeanne Franzone.
Dr. Menapace joined Shriners Children’s pediatric orthopedic surgery department in 2024, bringing clinical and academic interests in spine, skeletal dysplasia and osteogenesis imperfecta. He is a candidate fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society and an active member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He is a regular attendee at national and international meetings, and he is a reviewer for the Journal of Spine Surgery.
Outside of work, Dr. Menapace enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, traveling, exercising and photography.
