Biography

Franklin Gettys, M.D., is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and the recipient of numerous academic awards and honors including the T. Boone Pickens Award for Orthopedics for Clubfoot Research. Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, he has a special interest in hip preservation surgery for adolescents and young adults to prevent the onset of arthritis. He also specializes in conditions of the spine and feet in children and adolescents, as well as injury care.

His extensive training includes a one-year research fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center where he worked to understand the healing process for large bone defects. He is also the co-author of an intensive study regarding the validity of orthopedic information available on the internet. Following his time in Charlotte, he secured a position in the esteemed fellowship program at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. While in Dallas, two of the leading hip preservation surgeons in the country mentored him.

Dr. Gettys is a former competitive swimmer at Virginia Tech University, a dog lover, and enjoys spending time cooking with his wife, daughter and son.
