Biography
Samuel Francis Ciricillo, M.D., FACS, is the recipient of the Upjohn Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine from Emory University School of Medicine where he was awarded a Robert W. Woodruff scholarship and graduated summa cum laude, and the Julius Krevans Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco where he completed his neurosurgical training and pediatric fellowship. He is a diplomate with the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Ciricillo serves as medical director of adult and pediatric neurological surgery at the Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento and is an attending surgeon at Shriners Children's Northern California. He currently serves as department chair of the neuroscience division of Sutter Medical Group in Sacramento. His professional affiliations include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons and the American College of Surgeons. His professional interests include all aspects of pediatric neurosurgery and complex adult intracranial surgery, including endoscopy, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, craniofacial reconstruction, spina bifida, tumor surgery and gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery.
When not busy seeing his patients in clinic or sequestered in the operating room, Dr. Ciricillo can be found working in the garden, playing one of his pianos, cooking or romping around in a field somewhere with his two Weimaraners.
