Biography
Matthew Basiaga, D.O., MSCE, is a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist. His clinical focus includes:
- Expertise in the diagnosis and management of rare rheumatic diseases in children. He has a special interest in childhood Sjogren syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, Behcet's disease, non-infectious uveitis and chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO)
- Incorporating musculoskeletal ultrasound diagnostically, as an extension of his physical examination, and for ultrasound guided joint and tendon injections
Dr. Basiaga is focused on family-centered care and spends time working with his patients and their families to determine a diagnosis and create a treatment plan by:
- Understanding patient and family goals for diagnosis and treatment
- Providing education on current evidence-based understanding of the disease process and available treatment options
- Setting realistic treatment expectations
In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Basiaga is active in leading international research efforts to better understand childhood Sjogren syndrome. His research focuses on the epidemiology of rare pediatric autoimmune diseases using observational datasets.
Dr. Basaiga's primary practice is at Mayo Clinic. He joined the team at Shriners Children's Twin Cities in 2022. He is passionate about teaching and providing mentorship to medical students, residents and fellows.
