Shriners Children's Twin Cities Winter Camps 2023

Shriners Children's Twin Cities Winter Camps 2023

At Shriners Children's Twin Cities, our care extends far beyond the physical walls. We provide complimentary camp opportunities and activities for current patients. This winter, two winter fun day camps were offered - Alpine and Nordic Skiing! At alpine skiing day, Shriners Children's patients ages 5 and up with limb differences hit the slopes and learned the basics of downhill skiing. At nordic skiing day, Shriners Children's patients ages 5 and up had an opportunity to team up with instructors from the U.S. Paralympic Nordic Ski Team and learn about cross-country skiing. All of our camps are funded by our generous donors and provided complimentary for our patients. Thank you to all who support our progams!

Speaker 1:

I have attended Shriners Children's Twin Cities camps since I was five years old. And now at 15, they are still one of the best things that I get to do.

The first time I was with other kids who were missing a limb was at camp. Shriners Children's created a safe place for us to try new activities.

Winter events like downhill skiing and Nordic skiing are so much fun. Shriners Children's provides these activities, so we have the chance to challenge ourselves, learn new skills, and most of all have fun. Through these camps, friendships are made and they grow every year.

We come together as a group and cheer everyone on when they master a skill and encourage them to get up and try again if they fall. Through our unique physical differences, we can offer words of encouragement or help teach a way that might work because we, too, have the same physical difference.

Speaker 2:

I love it. It's cool.

Speaker 3:

My name is BethAnn [inaudible 00:01:55] and I am a coach of the Paralympic Nordic team. We are here to just play on skis, skinny skis, Nordic skis. We are cross country skiing. We are classic skiing. We want to test our skills off the bat and switch our skis.

Speaker 1:

These camps and events provide us opportunities to grow our physical skills and our confidence, which we will carry with us forever.

Same goes for friends we have made. They are friends for life.

Shriners helps me better my social skills that help me to grow as a person. That helps me be a better friend and mentor. My confidence has grown. I've become a better team player, but most of all, they've helped me grow as a person.

I am so grateful to everyone who supports camps at Shriners Children's Twin Cities. Thank you.

Speaker 4:

It's really fun.
