Shriners Children’s, one of the world's largest pediatric sub-specialty healthcare systems, is excited to announce that it is considered one of the 10 Most Trusted Nonprofits in the United States according to a recent survey by Morning Consult.

The results from the international research firm rank Shriners Children’s among other distinguished charities that provide healthcare and related services to adults and children. Morning Consult conducted the survey in July 2024 among a representative sample of 4,415 U.S. adults. Participants responded how much they did or did not trust 50 well-known nonprofits to do the right thing, and Shriners Children’s was viewed by a majority of respondents as an ethically sound organization that places patient care beyond cost.

“We are thrilled about the public’s immense trust in Shriners Children’s, as reflected by the Morning Consult survey, and we are proud to be in the company of such incredible organizations,” Stuart P. Sullivan, Chief Philanthropy Officer, said. “We will continue to earn this trust through excellent financial stewardship and ensuring donations are used in the most efficient and effective manner to support our mission and the children we serve.”

This ranking isn’t the first to reflect how Shriners Children’s leads the way in public trust. In addition to being named one of Forbes’ Top 100 Charities in 2023, the international healthcare system has a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator (as of press time), America’s largest and most utilized independent charity evaluator. The highest rating a nonprofit can receive from Charity Navigator, it designates Shriners Children’s as an official “Give with Confidence” charity based on its financial health, accountability and transparency. This rating also indicates that the organization, which provides medical care and services regardless of the families’ ability to pay or insurance status, is using its donations effectively.

Those donations, provided by more than 1.4 million generous donors, certainly go a long way for the children and families that Shriners Children’s serves. For example, in 2023, the healthcare system – which focuses on treatment for orthopedic conditions, burn care, spinal cord injury rehabilitation and management, and cleft lip and cleft palate care – served patients from 50 states (including U.S. territories) and 108 countries, performed 23,902 surgeries and 214,594 clinic procedures, and delivered 51,852 prosthetic and orthotic devices. Plus, Shriners Children’s saw more than 57,000 new patients, had 14,238 telehealth encounters and traveled 38 million miles by road and air to provide care.

Shriners Children’s dedication to providing the best pediatric specialty care, conducting innovative research and offering outstanding education programs for medical professionals is also reflected in its new strategic plan. The nonprofit will invest more in its research program in the coming years to carry forward a bold new vision for the organization. Shriners Children’s plans for specific service line investments include exploring new markets with growth potential for pediatric orthopedics, developing cleft lip and palate centers nationwide and evaluating national locations for burn care sites. Shriners Children’s strategy is guided by four pillars: to offer the best care, serve more children, be in the right places and provide more value.

The goal is to position Shriners Children’s, which was established in 1922 by Shriners International and has treated more than 1.5 million children from over 170 countries, to provide another 100-plus years of exceptional healthcare through innovative research in a patient- and family-centered environment.
