Teen Room

Support our Shriners Hospital with an investment in our future.

Please join us in giving children help today and hope for tomorrow. Funds raised will be used to transform the current space into a welcoming and comfortable space for teens with the goal is to create a special place that respects the emotional, intellectual, and developmental needs of the adolescent patient population. Every contributor to the Teen Room plays a critical role in helping patients on the cusp of adulthood begin their journey down the road to independence.

“Teens recovering from critical injuries and complex surgeries often have lengthy hospital stays. While physically mature, teens often are self conscious about their appearance and their relationships with their peers. It is important that they have a place where they can socialize without feeling the “fish bowl” effect of the Central Activity Area, where they are surrounded by parents and young children. “The Teen Room will foster activities that allow patients to engage with each other. The room also will be equipped with technology that allows teens to connect to news and events outside the hospital, which improves their ability to cope with what can sometimes be a lengthy hospital stay.”

– Melissa Grialou
Manager of the Therapeutic
Recreation & Child Life program

A Place for Teens

A retreat for patients 13 to 18 years old, the Teen Room will be designed with the unique needs of adolescents in mind. The goal is to create a welcoming, safe and comfortable space that features:

  • Accessible furnishings
  • State-of-the-art media
  • Group seating
  •  Flexible furniture arrangements

The room will allow teens to enjoy:

  • Movie nights
  • Games
  • Informal get-togethers
  • Quiet activities
  • Family visits

Your gift is an investment in the promise of a child’s life fulfilled.

It is a promise made possible by the personal commitment of those who believe in what is possible. By supporting the Hospital Teen Room project, you are supporting an environment of care that treats patients in mind, body and spirit. Every gift to the First Lady project will be used to transform a spartan, utilitarian space in our patient care area into a special place where teenage patients want to go. Inside the Teen Room, patients will both support and inspire each other. Through their interactions and activities they will build strength and confidence. As they recover, they will imagine life outside the hospital.
