Support Skeleton Safety

(October is National Physical Therapy Month)

The human skeleton is comprised of 206 bones – from the tip of our toes to the top of our heads. Unintentional injuries from falling and being struck are the leading cause of emergency room visits for children. As a leader in pediatric orthopedics, we want to spread the word that simple strategies can mean the difference between safety and injury, and that our specialists at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Northern California can work wonders with the neuro-musculoskeletal system thanks to the generosity of people like you.

Buy a bone and build a skeleton: With 206 bones to choose from, you can buy a bone to complete the skeleton in the lobby of our hospital. We will add your name to the bone or you can choose to name the bone in someone’s honor, or ask to be listed as “anonymous.” We will gladly snap a picture of your bone and email it to you.

Schools and businesses: Challenge students or your colleagues to raise donations to help children being treated at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Northern California for orthopaedic conditions. Complete your own skeleton by collecting money in denominations of your choice, and color in the bones “purchased” as a class, office or business. Schedule a check or change donation photo opportunity at the hospital.

A Simple Skeleton Safety Pledge: Falls account for more than 7,700 children treated in emergency rooms every day, followed closely by more than 5,400 children treated in emergency rooms for being struck by moving objects. As a family, a classroom, an office or business, make a Simple Skeleton Safety Pledge. (Pledge form coming soon!)
