The Sports Medicine Rehabilitation Symposium for the Young Athlete will introduce participants to best practices in sports medicine and joint preservation. Presentations will focus on up-to-date surgical procedures, injection procedures, and rehabilitation strategies for sports and cartilage injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle in pediatric and adolescent populations.
The symposium is presented by Nicole Friel, M.D., Brian Haus, M.D., Julie Ingwerson, M.D., Darvin Foo, PA-C, MMSc, PT., Bill Workman, PT, DPT, SCS, OCS, CSCS and the Sports Medicine team at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California.
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- understand the anatomy, pathology and treatment (surgical and non-surgical) options for various sports injuries with special consideration for skeletally immature and adolescent patients;
- identify different surgical procedures for injuries of the pediatric shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle;
- formulate a comprehensive rehabilitation plan with proper exercise prescription for shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle post-surgical and conservative care; and
- prepare and progress a young athlete through each phase of rehabilitation with direction and purpose towards returning to the field of play.
