The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings highlight U.S. News’s top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in 10 specialties. Rankings are based on a combination of clinical data and reputation with pediatric specialists. Eighty-three hospitals ranked in at least one specialty, based on a combination of clinical data and reputation with pediatric specialists. Shriners Hospitals for Children ─ Northern California is recognized in both of its programs that are eligible for U.S. News and World Report ranking.

A top provider of pediatric orthopaedic care in California, the Northern California Shriners Hospital provides care and rehabilitation for children with congenital conditions and injuries.  Among the thousands of children treated by the orthopaedic team are children with scoliosis, limb deficiencies, sports injuries, hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder malformations, brachial plexus birth palsy, spinal cord injury, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy.  The hospital is a center of excellence for the care of children with cerebral palsy, allowing all children to benefit from a comprehensive program that includes movement analysis, spasticity management, complex surgical care and rehabilitation.

The pediatric urology program at UC Davis partners with Shriners Hospital to care for infants and children. The department is a national leader in research studying human bladder stem cells to improve treatments for children with urological disorders.

The pediatric rankings are posted online and will be published in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2017” guidebook later this year.

Hospitals’ scores relied on patient outcomes and care-related resources each hospital makes available. U.S. News surveyed approximately 180 pediatric hospitals and asked more than 10,000 pediatric specialists and subspecialists where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, setting aside location and expense.

U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of sick children find the best medical care available. The rankings open the door to an array of detailed information about each hospital’s performance.
