Shriners Hospitals for Children Named 2015 Employer of the Year

Sacramento City College Honors Hospital for Exemplary Work Experience Opportunities

Sacramento City College named Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California as the 2015 Employer of the Year. The award was given to Shriners Hospital to honor its commitment to providing exemplary internship and work experience opportunities for community college students pursuing careers as technicians in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).

For the past three years, Shriners Hospital has provided internship opportunities to Sacramento City College students studying to become HVAC technicians. Since then, the hospital has hired four interns to work in the hospital’s engineering department – one full-time and three on a part-time basis.

“We are grateful to Shriners Hospital for the hands-on experience they provide our students,” says Tracey Hodge, coordinator of the Work Experience Education & Internship Program at Sacramento City College. “The internships allow students to gain skills and insight that cannot be taught in a classroom,” she adds.
