Shriners Hospital Surgeon Elected President of the Greater Sacramento Society of Plastic Surgeons

Shriners Hospital surgeon Pirko Maguina, M.D., has been elected 2016 president of the Greater Sacramento Society of Plastic Surgeons. As president, Dr. Maguina is responsible for organizing monthly meetings and educational programs for the society of plastic surgeons.  He also will represent the 45-member organization in advocacy issues and in public outreach activities.

“The Greater Sacramento Society of Plastic Surgeons is a very special organization that brings together all the plastic surgeons in our area as colleagues and as friends.  I am honored to serve as president of an organization that gives us the opportunity to learn from one another and to build a strong professional network to better serve our community,” says Dr. Maguina.

Pirko Maguina, M.D., provides specialized Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to children

As a member of both the Plastic Surgery and Burn Surgery teams at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California, Dr. Maguina provides specialized plastic and reconstructive surgery to children afflicted with burn injuries and pediatric plastic surgery problems from any cause. Dr. Maguina also is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis Medical Center.

A native of Germany, Dr. Maguina is fluent in three languages – German, Spanish and English – and brings a variety of international experiences to his profession. After living in Europe, Asia, South, Central and North America, he studied medicine in Lima, Peru before completing his residency training and fellowships in the United States.

Dr. Maguina is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association, the American Burn Association, and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgery, the Peruvian-American Medical Society.

Dr. Maguina participates in international outreach trips for the treatment of children with cleft lip and late effects of burns. His humanitarian work has taken him to many countries including Peru, the Philippines, Africa, India, Vietnam, and Ecuador.
