Shriners Hospital Physical Therapist Elected to California Physical Therapy Association Board

Shriners Hospital physical therapist Leslie Torburn, PT, DPT, has been elected to the Board of the California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA). She will serve a three-year term beginning in January 2020. With over 9,000 members, the CPTA is the third-largest physical therapy association in the world. Its mission is to build a community that advances the profession of physical therapy to improve the health of society.

“I am honored to serve on the CPTA Board and look forward to promoting the public’s awareness of the unique benefits and value of physical therapy. In addition, I am eager to help modernize the operations
of the CPTA to better serve the new professional members. I have been involved in the physical therapy profession for over 30 years, and this is an opportunity to work with my colleagues throughout California to foster an organization that continues to inspire physical therapists and physical therapy assistants in their professional development,” said Dr. Torburn.

Dr. Torburn joined Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California in 2012. She is a physical therapist in the hospital’s Motion Analysis Center (MAC), where high-speed cameras, reflective markers, and computer technology are used to help physicians better understand a child’s motion and muscle activity. The most common diagnoses treated in the MAC include cerebral palsy, spina bifida, clubfoot, and limb differences. Dr. Torburn has a special interest in movement analysis and improving people’s function, and Shriners Motion Analysis Center is a perfect fit.

As a member of the CPTA Board, Dr. Torburn will participate in activities that promote public identity, access to physical therapist providers, and education and research related to the practice of physical
therapy.
