Therapeutic techniques that promote positive patient outcomes will be the topic of discussion when physical and occupational therapists gather at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California from 8 a.m. – 12 noon, Saturday, March 3. Therapeutic Management of the Pediatric Burn Patient is the title of a continuing education course presented by Shriners Hospital therapists specializing in care of the burn-injured child. Presenters include Ingrid Parry, PT, Debbie Minter, PT, Clarissa Carbullido, PT, and Tiffany Romias, OT. Presentations will promote an understanding of scars from a wound-healing perspective. Topics covered include:
- the impact of wound healing and scar formation on long-term functional outcome
- the core therapeutic interventions at all stages of burn recovery and their effects on outcome
- how to advance and monitory a therapy plan as patients transition from inpatient to outpatient care
- how to recognize complications and understand the beset options for management and follow up
The course is approved for 3.75 continuing education units by the Physical Therapy Board of California.
