Shriners Hospital Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Shrine Day Celebration and Walk for Love

A large and enthusiastic crowd will converge at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California on Saturday, June 3, for a Walk for LOVE and Shrine Day celebration.   The fun and colorful event celebrates the 20th anniversary of the formal dedication of the hospital that took place in June 1997.  The walk will begin with a “parade” led by Shriners at 10 a.m., and conclude with Shrine Day barbecue on the lawn behind the hospital, with food donated and prepared by the Firefighters Burn Institute.

Shrine clowns, Keystone Cops, and the Shriners Oriental band are part of the festivities.  Fezzy, the Shrine mascot, will greet kids of all ages, and Fezzy’s Rescue Squad will host a kids clinic designed especially for stuffed animals.

All activities take place at the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento, located at 2425 Stockton Boulevard. Free parking is available in the Shriners Hospital garage.  Walkers may pick up their t-shirts beginning at 8 a.m.  Community members who have not registered online may register in-person beginning at 8 a.m.

David Johnson, Chairman of the Hospital Board of Governors, is master of ceremonies for the post-walk program.  The hospital is pleased to welcome Jeffrey Sowder, who will speak on behalf of Shriners International. Now serving his eighth year as a member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children, Mr. Sowder was elected High Priest and Prophet at the Shriners’ 2016 Imperial Session, making him part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity.  Mr. Sowder is vice chair of the Imperial Donor Relations Committee and Imperial Liaison to the Northern California Shriners Hospital.

Lew Wentworth and Robert Tamblyn, both of whom are past chairmen of the Northern California Shriners Hospital Board of Governors are co-chairs of the Shrine Day and Walk for Love Celebration. Event sponsors include the Firefighters Burn Institute, South Bay Scenic, Detail Maniac, Sacramento Magazine and UC Davis Children’s Hospital.

  1. Congratulations and best wishes to a truly wonderful cause. Having previously been a volunteer at the hospital and still consider it my number one charity I wish you another 20 years of success.
As I no longer live in CA it’s nice to look back on my Shrine days at the hospital and recall the many hours spent there. From the Sonora Desert to you, again congratulations and may you continue to be a diamond of unusual glitter.
