We consistently rank in the top decile among pediatric facilities for patient and family satisfaction.  We recently ranked in the 88th percentile among pediatric hospitals nationwide for willingness to recommend inpatient services in 2016.

National ranking

For the eighth year in a row, Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California is ranked as one of the nation’s elite providers of pediatric orthopaedic care by U.S. News & World Report.

In its annual Best Children’s Hospitals rankings, U.S. News & World Report ranks the Northern California Shriners Hospital as number eight in pediatric orthopaedics in conjunction with the UC Davis Children’s Hospital. The Northern California Shriners Hospital also achieved the ranking of 20th in Urology in conjunction with UC Davis.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California is accredited by the Joint Commission and distinguished by the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a verified pediatric burn center.

Designated Rehabilitation Facility

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California is designated by the State of California as a Rehabilitation Facility that meets all standards required by the Systems of Care Division of the California Children’s Services (CCS). The Rehabilitation Facility designation is granted to those organizations that demonstrate excellent multidisciplinary care, including ongoing assessments, plans and documented follow-up for patients and families.

Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) is a short assessment on pain, mobility and upper extremity function to help better assess a patient’s chronic condition. PROMIS allows physicians to see what the patient is experiencing with regards to pain, function, mobility, and feelings. It is done through a series of questions that get developed into a T- score for each category.


The Institute of Pediatric Regenerative Medicine (IPRM) at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California is home to a collaborative research program devoted to bringing discoveries from the bench to the bedside. Integrated basic science and clinical research studies are focused on tissue regeneration of skin, the nervous system and musculoskeletal system.
