A patient of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California since she was one-year-old, Baylee, 7, has been fitted for several prostheses over the years. During a recent appointment with prosthetist Eric Smith, Baylee demonstrated her love o
f dancing as she tried out her new leg.
In addition to “kicking up her heels”, Baylee shared a packet of photographs and news clippings. Crowned 2017 Mini Miss California Heart Shine Spirit Queen, Baylee’s accomplishments and all the things she does to help others in her community have been reported in her hometown. Her many acts of kindness include delivering books to hospitalized children, collecting hand sanitizer to send to our troops, and delivering donuts to local firefighters as a gesture of thanks.
“Baylee truly has a shining heart! Even as she had her own set-backs this year with a very difficult prosthetic fit, she continued to look and reach outward with empathy for those with small and large challenges in life,” says Smith.
A picture of Baylee taken by hospital photographer, Julia Serat, was selected for inclusion in the 2015 Children’s Hospitals Photo Exhibit that was displayed in the Senate Building in Washington, D.C., before traveling across the country. Titled In Full Swing, that same photo appeared on a hospital brochure.
