Shriners Hospitals for Children-Northern Calfornia (SHCNC) is seeking an experienced academic pediatric spine surgeon for the position of Director of Spine Surgery. Dual training in pediatric orthopaedics and orthopaedic spine surgery is preferred. This position is based in the Orthopaedic Department at SHCNC which has one of the busiest pediatric spine deformity services in California. The Director will join 8 pediatric orthopaedists and 2 pediatric hand surgeons who comprise the joint SHCNC- University of California Davis Pediatric Orthopaedic Service, and 2 experienced UCD spine surgeons who work part-time at SHCNC.
The Director of Spine Surgery will be an expert in pediatric spine deformity, capable of leading the experienced spine and pediatric orthopaedic surgeons who currently care for children with spine problems at SHCNC. The SHCNC patient population includes adolescents, children, and infants with idiopathic, neuromuscular, congenital and post-traumatic spine deformities.
He/she will work closely with the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Chief Executive Officer of SHCNC to develop and grow the spine program along the lines of other internationally known SHCNC orthopaedic subspecialty services (cerebral palsy and hand & upper extremity) with the goal of becoming a international leader in pediatric spine surgery, by focusing on the Mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children: excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching.
Resources available to the Director of Spine Surgery will include the Ashley Spine Research Endowment Fund; an EOS 3D imaging scanner; staff support devoted to the spine service, including a Physician Assistant and an RN Care Manager; clinical research support; the Institute for Pediatric Regenerative Medicine, an onsite basic science research center focusing on neurosciences; and a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
