Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder caused by changes in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Children with IBD may have symptoms that include discomfort, cramping, diarrhea, constipation and changes in bowel habits. IBD is a disorder that has both physical and mental causes. Treatment begins with a proper diagnosis, and the Pediatric Surgery team at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California carefully evaluates each patient to develop an individual treatment plan, which may include medications, dietary changes, yoga and exercise therapy.
