Broadcasting live from Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Roseville, FOX40 kicked off its Holiday Toy Drive on Monday, November 27th, on its morning show. Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California is the beneficiary of the annual toy drive that continues through December 8.
Morning show host Gary Gelfand invited viewers to help make holiday wishes come true for kids at the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento. Gelfand reminded viewers that toys suitable for toddlers to teens are welcome and appreciated as the hospital’s pediatric care extends from infants to young adults. Those who wish to participate may drop off new, unwrapped toys at participating Big O Tires and Mountain Mike’s Pizza stores in the Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto areas. Collection continues through Friday, December 8.
Donated toys will be delivered to the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento between 8 and 10 a.m. on Friday, December 15. The spectacular delivery will be broadcast live on FOX40 news, as hospital staff and guests watch in awe as participating sponsors place the new toys under the Christmas tree in the hospital lobby.
“The magic of the season comes to life when the toys are delivered to the hospital. Our team of ‘Santa’s Helpers’ go to work immediately, selecting individual gifts for each of our patients and wrapping them for Santa to deliver to the kids on Christmas morning. It is remarkable. There really are no words to truly express the depth of our gratitude and the positive impact this community event makes on the patients, families and staff at Shriners Hospital,” says Melissa Grialou, manager of the Therapeutic Recreation and Child Life program at the Northern California Shriners Hospital.
Donations received during the Holiday Toy Drive are distributed to patients throughout the year, making it possible for the hospital to provide gifts to children hospitalized on their birthday. Donated games and toys also are used by patients and families participating in activities in the central play area.
FOX40 is coordinating the annual benefit in partnership with Big O Tires, 93.7 The River, Mountain Mikes Pizza and KHOP 95.1.
