At Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada, our team is committed to caring for the overall health and well-being of our patients. This includes their minds as well as their bodies. In that spirit, we offer a wide variety of programs.
Our extensive patient programs give children the opportunity to participate in activities they enjoy to brighten their stay and help them return to their communities more active and confident.
Shriners Children's partners with a number of community organizations to provide opportunities for children to explore and grow their overall potential inside and outside of the hospital. Your nurse or care coordinator can direct you to opportunities in the community.
Learning never stops. Children keep up with their schoolwork through a collaboration of Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada and the English Montreal School Board (EMSB). Upon request, we will write a letter destined for the community school teacher to summarize all that was done with the student while in the hospital.
Current and former patients come together in our Patient Ambassador Program as champions for our program. Not only do they serve as positive role models in their community but they also donate their time and energy to promoting our hospital as well as the Shriners fraternity.
Therapeutic recreation and child life specialists come together in the Central Activity Area to facilitate structured and unstructured play each day. To learn more, read about our Therapeutic Recreation & Child Life program.
Each month, we welcome two Air Canada pilots in full uniform to our facility. They visit with the children, read stories, participate in activities and answer questions. Each child who meets the pilots receive a signed Honorary Pilot certificate and a “Wings of Courage” medal, in recognition of their strength and courage. Children feel invigorated and encouraged after each visit.
