One of the many female physicians practicing at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California is Fatema Iqbal, M.D., a pediatrician with advanced training in pediatric musculoskeletal medicine. For many families, a typical clinic visit may include an interview with Dr. Iqbal who assesses patients for surgical readiness. Dr. Iqbal earned her master’s degree in child development before studying medicine at the University of California, Davis. Her experience as a pediatric resident confirmed her desire to become a pediatrician and dedicate her career to children. During her rotation at the Northern California Shriners Hospital, she discovered her real niche.
With the encouragement of Dr. James, she pursued specialized training in musculoskeletal medicine, focusing on the non-operative care of children’s musculoskeletal issues. Shriners Hospitals for Children goes the extra mile for kids, and Dr. Iqbal brings an added dimension of care to support best practices and positive outcomes.
“Many patients who come to Shriners Hospitals have special needs, complex medical issues or syndromes, and they return to the clinic regularly to be monitored by our medical team,” notes Dr. Iqbal. “I bring a unique perspective to the surgical team as a bridge between the operative and non-operative aspects of care.”
Dr. Iqbal is featured in the Fall 2015 issue of Leaders in Care, where you can learn more about the complex, compassionate care that is the hallmark of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
