Dance party helps patient heal at Shriners Hospital

Let’s dance! That’s exactly what nurses, child life specialists and physical therapists at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California did when a patient recovering from severe burn injuries told her nurse she wanted to dance. The professional team gowned up and led their patient in the Macarena and the Chicken Dance. The dance “party” was, of course, all part of the healing process. A tilt table provided by the physical therapy team allowed the patient to join in the dance.

Physical therapy is vital to patients recovering from injuries as it allows them to gain strength and regain their range of motion. This is just one of many examples of the compassionate and innovative care that is the hallmark of Shriners Hospitals for Children.

At Shriners Hospital for Children – Northern California professionals work in partnership to ensure that patients benefit from the finest pediatric care. The hospital houses a clinic, traditional inpatient services, and professional support services in one facility. Patients benefit from the collaborative approach to care fostered by the ability of physicians, nurses, therapists, dietitians, orthotists, and other professionals to work side-by-side. Having doctors and specialists housed in one facility is an added convenience for patients and parents.
