On October 2, executive leaders from the Sacramento region will play for the inaugural Capital Cup Golf Tournament. The Capital Cup is designed to create awareness and raise money for the region’s charities, as well as promote a spirit of competition and camaraderie among some of the region’s business leaders. Donors have the opportunity to support their favorite player, or their favorite charity, as each player is competing to benefit his or her favorite charitable organization.
Steve Hunter shared with us why he chose Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California as his favorite charitable organization:
I have chosen to play for Shriners Hospital for Children-Northern California. My wife and I have donated to the hospital throughout the years, ever since our own kids were born, but we have wanted to get more involved since we joined Granite Bay Golf Club. My good friend and the head Pro at Granite Bay Golf Club (GBGC) Brad Cady enlightened me to his story and his family’s relationship with Shriners.
The Cady family has grown up around Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California. But the best place to find them now is at a golf course, soccer field, swimming pool or karate studio. Parents Brad and Marni Cady credit Shriners pediatric medical center for their active lifestyles. Spencer, age 8, born with bilateral club foot, became a Shriners patient when he was only 1 week old. His brother, Mitchell, 10, came to Shriners at age 5 with cerebral palsy. There have been hundreds of visits and numerous surgeries. Marni says that while her sons had very different needs, both “received the best care we could possibly ask for.” Brad adds, “The most amazing part is that Shriners Hospital does not determine patient care by ability to pay. No qualifying patient is refused. No family ever pays anything! Insurance companies do not determine the course of care, THE DOCTORS DO! Our family is forever grateful and indebted to the Shriners Hospital for Children and all their fantastic doctors and staff. In order for the Shriner Hospital to be able to continue this mission they must be supported by fund raising.”
