Big Day of Giving Results

In 24 hours, over 360 donors from the Sacramento region and beyond contributed over $61,000 to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California on Big Day of Giving 2020. With a 13% increase in donations, this year is significant given the financial hardships for the Sacramento region, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The “Big Day of Giving,” is an annual 24-hour online fundraising event hosted by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation that helps the community raise money for local non-profits. Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California was one of 615 non-profits participating this year.

“The generosity from our community has been overwhelming. The donations we received yesterday support our work to make big days, every day for our patients,” mentioned our Hospital Administrator and CEO, Margaret Bryant. “When a child gets to walk on their new prosthetic leg for the first time, or when a child gets to go swimming without having an accident for the first time, that is a big day in a child’s life,” added the Director of Development, Alan Anderson.

Last year, children throughout the country traveled to Sacramento for care at Shriners, resulting in more than 30,000 patient visits. Thousands of families choose Shriners for advanced, specialized pediatric care. On average, each patient visit costs $2,833.
